Makeup Fun

I am a do-it-yourself kind of girl when it comes to my hair and make up.  For years I spent money getting my hair and make-up done professionally, but I would always walk away less than 100% pleased.  My dissatisfaction with professional results, mixed with my desire to watch my budget, led me to believe that I would be better off learning to style myself.

I paid attention while getting my hair and make-up done, and was able to pick up tips and techniques.  I always love my make-up more when I do it myself, than when I get it done at a counter.  I think the reasoning behind it is that no one knows my face like I do.  No one knows better than me what colors work and don’t work on my face.  I think you will find the same is true for you.  Once you learn make-up application techniques you gain control.  You decide how little or how much to apply.  I always hate the cakey look make-up counters create.  By doing my own make-up I can avoid the thick layer of cover up, and spend more time highlighting my eyes.

When it comes to hair color, there are some situations where you should visit a salon.  For example, if you’re going from dark to light you should visit a stylist.  It’s hard to go blonde when you have black or dark brown hair.  Applying the coloring yourself can leave your hair shining like a penny.  Trust me copper is not a good color when it’s on top of your head. If you’re looking to darken your hair you can certainly color it yourself using over the counter hair dyes.  The brand you choose is important, and you have to take great care when applying, but it is an affordable and reasonable alternative.
